Somewhere in Mississippi, on a two lane country highway, I passed this home. I skidded to a stop and backed the car up to the driveway. I shot a few photographs of the scene and drove on. Like a lucky dime in the dirt, it was just waiting for me.
Years later as I searched my collection for raw materials to work with, I came upon the special box I had stored the slide in. I always knew that Down Home would find its way into my work.
I wanted to create this painting using an approach more on the traditional side of art. But I did it with digital brushes and colors. I want you to see the moisture in the air as the Sun evaporates the dew. I want the sound of Southern woods to tickle your ears. I want the smell of lush greenery to assault your nostrils and I want you to imagine that you live here and drive down this driveway each day.
It's down home in every way.
